BECKET’S CHAPEL | Winner of a Civic Trust Award in 2025 |

Led by Patricia Forero from The Architect Studio, the restoration of Becket’s Chapel brought together conservation, adaptation and renewed public use within a Grade I listed historic building in Wymondham, Norfolk, with origins dating back to the 12th century.
MFR contributed as a collaborator, bringing an interior architectural perspective to the development of the new café extension through architectural documentation, visualisation and lighting curation.
The intervention was approached as part of the wider spatial experience, considering how contemporary elements could support the new use of the space while remaining sensitive to the historic character of the chapel. Materiality, scale and atmosphere were considered as part of a restrained contemporary language in dialogue with the existing fabric.
The project received a Civic Trust Award in 2025 and was highlighted by Historic England as an exemplar of climate change adaptation within a historic building.
